There isn't a great deal of information out there (hello fandom of one) or even information about Tomokai in the comic itself. There'd probably be more info if the comic wasn't on indefinite hiatus. Her father is a billionaire, working in the pharmaceutical industry and was likely encouraged to go into genetics because of this. Especially after her brother joined the yakuza. After a time, she moves to England because of something never revealed (the website used to say that she'd helped to develop a drug that turned out to be lethal, but that's since been taken down,) whatever it is that made her leave home, it's something that prevents her from going as far as she could, despite being a genius where genetics are concerned.

A couple of weeks after leaving her job, she's kidnapped by Jack Brodie. Having heard about her prowess and the fact that she previously worked for P-FACT, he decides that she's the best person to help him figure out what's going down with this file he stole. She eventually agrees to help him out after seeing what's on the disc (refusing the money he offered here, she's working out of scientific curiosity I assume,) and eventually agrees to make the PM13 serum for him despite the astronomical chance of fatality. While developing the serum, she contacts Harry Wade - a guy sent to track Brodie and Brodie's ex-partner - to explain the situation (that Jack was set up.) which eventually leads to Jack being able to infiltrate P-FACT and get his son back.

Jack - in Harry's body - ends up in the hospital and Tomokai charms her way past the police guards and strongarms her way into Jack's room (taking out two nurses in the process with a sedative.) and gets a crash course in gun safety whilst escaping from the cops with him in her car. After getting Jack into his own body, she discovers he's suffering with amnesia after being Harry for too long, but there's no time for that! They make a break for it, but are stopped by her brother who's busy trying to fulfil his blood oath by taking out Jack. She manages to talk him down and eventually he tells her the other reason that he came to bring her home; their father's business is at risk of going under due to a corrupt industry and she agrees to go so long as she can bring Jack with her.

The next morning, they board a flight to Osaka and Tomokai recounts everything that's happened so far in her journal and has a revelation. The PM13 serum is effectively soul stealing. This is, of course, a secret and it's the reason she was fired by P-FACT.

And that's where the comic leaves off.

Personality:
Tomokai is a scientist. In the first volume, that is likely her defining trait. She agrees to help Jack because of her need to see exactly what the PM13 serum is. Once she gets her teeth into this project, he even becomes a little scared of her - describing the situation with "now I've let the tiger out of her cage... An' I'm startin' to feel like dinner." She wastes no time getting her hands on the stuff she needs, telling a few white lies and sweet talking her way into getting - not just the equipment to make the serum - but even manages to snag stuff for blood tests, saliva tests and even the equipment to map his brain chemicals. It doesn't even take much convincing to get her to go along with it, despite the fact that she states that if they fuck this up, she'll be guilty of murder. Bio-chemistry is her comfort zone. It's what she knows best, I think it's safe to say that having it around her helps her come into her own a bit.

She's resilient and seems fairly able to adapt quickly. Initially, she's terrified of Jack, but it's not long before she takes the reins of this project. This is something that carries through volume two. While it likely would've seemed like a joke before Brodie turned her life on its head, she takes a gun with her into a guarded hospital and manages to break out a man who likely weighs twice as much as her. Not that she isn't scared, she's bricking it the whole time. But she sucks it up, pushes away her fear and her panic and gets on with the task at hand. It's a skill she seems to have developed to perfection working with Jack.

So, it's pretty safe to say that whilst she can be a tough cookie, she's hardly tough as nails. In fact she's probably more aptly described as a gentle soul. Voracious scientist aside, she really has no stomach for hurting people - though she puts on a damn good show to the contrary. Whilst breaking Jack out of the hospital, she states that she would really consider working there given how much the staff care about their patients and when she hurts herself firing a gun, she gets upset about the fact that she could've actually killed someone. Throughout the second volume especially, she's also spurred on for her concern about Jack's wellbeing more than anything else. Throughout the first volume also, she begins to look after him seemingly out of genuine caring for a friend rather than a science project.

Tomokai is... Not really afraid to speak her mind. She speaks up against Jack's insane plans more than once and tells Kenzo to stick it a couple of times too. When we first see her, she's even recounting a story about telling a guy to hit the road after he served his part to her friends. Her confidence in her abilities may have taken a bit of a knock after whatever happened back home, but this girl is no shrinking violet.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Tomokai's biggest strength is probably one I mentioned before - her ability to adapt to new and terrifying situations. She's pretty good at sweet talking her way into places she shouldn't be and is fairly capable of running at least your most basic heist-type situation. Alongside this, she has a fierce scientific brain on her. If you need to know anything about bio-chemistry, there's a good chance she'll be able to help you out.

As far as weaknesses go. Well, she's physically fit, but she's not really someone to bet on in a fight. She can be a tad naive, she initially calls Harry to explain the situation expecting that he'll believe her with no more than a phonecall. She tends to think she knows best, which - to be fair - she mostly has so far, but it's hardly the type of thing that keeps a person out of trouble.

-dering if I'm in some sort of 'kidnapping olympics'.

[she sighs through her nose and pulls a bit of a face when she realises the thing is on. Okay, deep breath! She's a tough nut! She can do this!]

Look, I... I don't know what I'm doing here or what anyone wants from me but I'm kind of in the middle of something. I really don't mean to be rude, but I don't have the energy-- or the time to play whatever game you're up to here.

If it's money you're after- not that I can see any use for it around here- I can provide that, just...

[ugh REALITY SETTING IN this isn't just some kidnapping is it]

... Someone help me find a way out of here. Please?

Third Person Sample:
It took a few days before she was willing to accept that maybe this wasn't just a messed up dream like the others she'd been having recently. Only with less weird cult stuff and more colours and pokemon.

The thing that really tipped the scale for her was bumping into some kid - Joey? - who kept going on about how great his rattata was. (He was still calling it a Rattata even though it had evolved too. What a weird kid.) Somehow, that seemed way out there, even for her subconcious, and she had to accept the reality. She was stuck in a video game. As if her life wasn't fucked up enough already.

After the second day or so, she'd gotten a fair bit sick of asking people for advice only to have them be utterly useless. One guy even was ridiculous enough to suggest that beating the Elite Four would help! As if that made any kind of sense! She had - however - already managed to become quite fond of the Ditto she'd found upon arrival. It was the irony of the thing that warmed her up to it really, and she called it Brodie. In all honesty, it wasn't that different to the whole thing. She'd have to teach Jack to trust her all over again, so why not try it with a pokemon first?

Sadly, unlike the real thing, Brodie wasn't much of a cook and neither was she. Which was all good for it, she had enough berries to last until the next town, but it was hardly as if she could survive on pokemon food. Tomokai had tried her hand at making... something out of some stuff she'd picked up in the last town, but even her Ditto seemed disturbed by the whole ordeal and refused to come near it. "Everyone's a critic," she murmured with a sigh and tossed it away. "I'll just wait until the next town then, hey?"
